Pre-employment Testing Requirements

This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing.  After applying applicants will receive the Phase I Online Assessment via email. Please check your SPAM folder to ensure that you do not miss this communication. To be considered for this open position; new and existing applicants MUST complete the applicable action (see below) by the requisition close date.

  • New Applicants MUST complete the Phase I Assessment by the requisition close date. Applicants who complete the assessment after the requisition close date will not be considered for this open position.

Job Role Summary

  • Field Mechanics perform heavy mechanical work including pipefitting, welding, boiler-making, blueprint reading, scaffold building, rigging, carpentry, painting, and equipment repair. 

  • The job involves working at heights and working outdoors in all weather conditions. 

  • Work schedule is days with occasional shift work.

  • Jobs are located at the Joliet Refinery, Joliet, IL.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Safely perform duties with strict adherence to procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and company policy.

  • Ownership of personal safety and safety of co-workers and community.

  • Physically inspect and monitor equipment and/or the work area to ensure correct operation.

  • Fabricate, repair, disassemble, and reassemble refinery equipment.

  • Read and use blueprints and Isometric drawings.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance repair, testing, and inspection of maintenance tools, and equipment.

  • Installation and removal of blinds.

  • Hydro testing of piping and equipment.

  • Repair piping leaks.

  • Cutting and threading pipe.

  • Use hand and power tools.

  • Install steam tracing on vessels and piping.

  • Tube bending and installation.

  • Steam trap repairs and installation.

  • Heat exchanger assembly.

  • Work with breathing air equipment.

  • Develop layout drawings and the use of isometrics.

  • Proper use of gaskets in relation to various products.

  • Basic Rigging

    • Forklift

    • Man Lift

    • Hand Rig

    • Oeprate Chanin Falls and Slings

  • Basic Welding

    • Use Torch

    • Use Grinder

  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess valid drivers' license

  • Currently possess or be able to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

  • Able and willing to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime

  • Able and willing to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Able and willing to work at heights above 25 feet

  • Able and willing to work in confined spaces

  • Able and willing to work both alone in remote locations and in a team environment

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA's)

  • Desire and ability to be a leader in personal safety

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
